COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO is probably best known for being hometown to horror movie hostess ELVIRA. But it was also here that in 1995, bored to fuck with the seemingly endless supply of average, boring and generally UN-Inspired Rock Bands, THE MANSFIELDS formed. In the spirit of 1,2,3,4 on the Floor, Balls Out Rock N Roll Mayhem, THE MANSFIELDS didn’t care if they sold one record, One Thousand, or One Million, they were going to create their own world and keep the boring and the lame out of it! 500+ shows and nearly a decade after their formation, THE MANSFIELDS are proud to have stuck to their guns, weathered numerous bullshit trends, paid a fuck load of dues, and lived to tell the tale. Inspired by ELVIS, RAMONES, STRAY CATS, HANOI ROCKS, THE CRAMPS, NIRVANA, NEW YORK DOLLS, BILLY IDOL/ GENERATION X, MOTLEY CRUE, JOHNNY CASH, SEX PISTOLS, THE RUNAWAYS, SOCIAL DISTORTION, The Mansfields encompass the Blood, Sweat, Tears & Beers ethics of Rock-N-Roll and Walk the Fucking Walk’THEY BLEED IT!
The story of THE MANSFIELDS actually begins much earlier than 1995. Dave, Doug and Tommy, all of which adopted the Last name MANSFIELD as a salute to their favorite B-Movie actress JAYNE MANSFIELD, have been together since they were in their mid-teens. Eventually learning to play their instruments together without any real help or God forbid, music lessons, the guys spent many a day making noise in Dave and Doug’s garage and dreaming of just making it to a stage somewhere—anywhere. Recognizing early on that being visually entertaining was just as important to them as sounding good, it didn’t take long for THE MANSFIELDS to find their niche by blending Short, Fast Punk Rock songs with the Glam/ Punk look and a theatrical live show. The kind of show that most Punk bands are not noted for having. Idolizing Joan Jett and The Runaways, Doug brought to the band a wall of Distortion in his guitar sound and all of a sudden they were writing catchy 3-chord songs like the Ramones and Blondie songs they had been listening to.
THE MANSFIELDS played their first show in the Fall of ‘95 as the support band for San Francisco’s Swingin’ Utters and never looked back. This would be just the first in a never-ending line of bands the guys would share the stage and road with over the next 9 years. Other notables include L7, THE QUEERS, AFI, THE ATARIS, DROPKICK MURPHYS, THE VIBRATORS, FASTER PUSSYCAT, 7 YEAR BITCH, BRIAN SETZER ORCHESTRA, ALKALINE TRIO, HOMEGROWN, THE DONNAS, D-GENERATION, LESS THAN JAKE, GROOVIE GHOULIES, JIM ROSE CIRCUS, THE LIVING END, THE VANDALS, ME FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMME’S, DEMENTED ARE GO, AT THE DRIVE IN, TSUNAMI BOMB, US BOMBS and the list goes on.
THE MANSFIELDS released their first record in 1996. A Blood Red Vinyl 7-inch on LITTLE BOY RECORDS entitled ‘PUNKABILLY RULES OK!’ 1000 copies were initially pressed up. The record sold out so fast that the label didn’t even have time to repress it before the band left for their first tour. Capitalizing on the success of the debut, THE MANSFIELDS hit the studio to record their first full-length album ‘SAPPY SONGS FOR SUMMER NIGHTS’. Released by the NYC label BLAST OFF RECORDS on Halloween 1998, ‘SAPPY SONGS’ is a 13 song/ 25 minute Blast of Unapologetic Punk Rock and a salute to the bands heroes as the cover art was done up like the ‘PUNK’ Magazine cover of Joey Ramone. This album received Rave reviews and made quite a number of critics lists for the year and even went on to be voted as one of the Top 10 Punk Rock albums of the 1990’s by the UK’s Alternative Recycler Magazine. Portland’s MUTANT POP RECORDS released the 10 song ‘KILL YOUR RADIO’ EP in Feb 2001 and by the following year, THE MANSFIELDS were on the road Headling their first European Tour in support of the record. The band was a smash on the road as Europe has a famous appetite for Good American Punk Rock-N-Roll. Within a month of returning from Europe, the guys acquired not only the rights to their first album, but also the rights to use Blast Off Records as their own label making them the new owners.
Their second full length effort, ‘LOUD, FAST, PUNK, TRASH, ROCK-N-ROLL’, is a defining moment for THE MANSFIELDS. 14 songs that really bring together all of the bands influences. From Punk and Rockabilly to Glam and Garage, ‘LOUD FAST is the record we’ve wanted to make since the day we started this band’focused yet diverse and classic’ says Dave. 2004 brought THE MANSFIELDS their Second Headlining tour of Europe and this time with something to capitalize on, the band really brought it on and destroyed. Selling out of every stich of merch they brought, the band took that as a sign of good things to come.
Upon returning home, THE MANSFIELDS decided it would be a good time to document the growth of the band with a Live DVD Concert Shoot since they were now selling out all of their hometown shows. The DVD features 25 songs spanning THE MANSFIELDS 10-year career along with interviews, tour footage, and music videos’it will hit the shelves in Spring 2005 with lots of touring to Support the effort.
