“Kids come up and say you’re our favorite band and I say what are you nuts?!” So says Daniel Williams drummer and modest musician for The Devil Wears Prada. It’s hard for the Dayton, OH band of eighteen to twenty year olds including Williams, Mike Hranica (vocals), Chris Rubey (guitar), Jeremy DePoyster (guitar/vocals), Andy Trick (bass) and James Baney (keys) to believe the response they are getting of the band they formed only a year ago. Williams recounts “we’ve gotten pictures of fans who gotten tattoos of our lyrics which is so flattering to think that something we say means that much to someone.” The music is possessed of slithering metal riffage meshed with plush rock passages, a barrage of keys, synth and even piano parts that jump out of the fervor and harsh vocals and melodic singing parts that impart inspirational lyrics. Speaking on their signing Rise Records head honcho, Craig Ericson recalls “They sent me a link to their myspace page and the music blew me away. I thought why aren’t these guys signed? I instantly knew I wanted to offer them a deal.”

The signing which happened a few days later, led to the band’s debut full-length “Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord” which is packed of songs that start full force but also sheets of sound that rear back to symphonic intensity and even some speedy euro-metal elements. The Devil Wears Prada have played over 200 shows since their inception with bands such as Killswitch Engage, My Chemical Romance, Circa Survive, He Is Legend, Bleeding Through, Silverstein, It Dies Today, Blessed By A Broken Heart and Aiden. Their headlining runs have given a glimpse of their spreading popularity with recent shows including 800 attendees in Cincinnatti, 600 in Virigina Beach and 400 in San Diego. With all this hype, it’s a bit surprising how random the band’s formation was. “I put a band notice on my instant messenger away message.” Williams recalls “The responses included James who I knew from school, Chris who I knew from going to local shows and Mike who I went to Church with years before.” The following day the prospective members assembled at Williams house for a jamming session and ended up writing the song Swords, Dragons & Diet Coke. “People love that song and sing along with it in concert and we always think, man we wrote 80% of that song on our first practice.” Taking their name from a book on tape that Chris’s mother had lying around The Devil Wears Prada was born. Within five months the band had hit their stride writing songs, developed a local buzz and signed with Rise Records.

Continuing on the band will be on a national tour this summer including the RISE RECORDS tour featuring Drop Dead, Gorgeous – Dance Gavin Dance and At the Throne of Judgment. And The Sound of the Underground tour.
