Sword

Richmond, Virginia. It’s summer 2003. Guitarists Luke Deskins (MY WAR) and long time friend Shawn Nash (GODDAMN WOLVES) are talking about starting a band together. This band would need to be heavier, louder, and more straight ahead than anything they had previously done. They had no bass player, no drumme, and no vocals, but they had a name and they knew what they wanted to accomplish. Sword was born.
A bass player was soon to follow in the form of Keith Brown (MY WAR, FACADE BURNED BLACK) and drumming duties would fall to Joey Arcaro. Practice commenced immediately in basements and parents’ homes. Songs were written, and vocals were moved off the back burner when it was decided that Keith Brown would sing. Months of songwriting would commence.
Finally, one cold winter night found them playing their first show in a dimly lit basement. People were immediately receptive. Stoners, metalheads, crusties, and hardcore fans alike were floored by their performance. Too slow for fans of hardcore, too complicated for stoners, and able to punch a hole through a wall somewhere in the middle, the Sword sound has been cast. Who are these 4 guys? Where did this band come from? And soon something starts to happen. Ten people at this show. Then those same ten at the next show, plus ten or so more. Then those twenty at the next show, with a few more. They were building a following already.
After nearly a year of playing any show that’ll have them, they’ve managed to grab hold of a small but growing, and more importantly, devout, fan base. Without even so much as a demo. Enter We Are The Label, out of Richmond, VA (The Setup, Schematic Of A Waking Life, etc) Tentatively entitled “Lord By Fire”, their first recording is sure to please.
Which brings us to the present. Plans for recording just before the end of 2004 with Andreas (Scarlet, Black Dahlia Murder, The Setup, etc) have been made. Finally a full-length’s worth of songs will be committed to something permanent that you the listener can experience. At last, those who haven’t seen them live can have their senses pummeled and rearranged. These songs are epic in scope and unrelenting in feel. There’s no room for civility here. Prepare yourself.
