Kollage

Kollage has been indirectly in the making for several years. The idea is to put together a collage of talented individuals, musicians, artists and individuals with other various hip hop related attributes. It was never intended initially from within the current artists’ agendas, it just all came together one day.

We found our passions many years ago, and some of us have developed and refined our skills in certain areas of music and art throughout that time. We all knew we wanted to create and let our skills flourish, but it wasn’t until recently, that we put all of this together into the Kollage you see today.

Members:

MATERIAL (Matthew Reeves)
aka: märz, fellow, pmc03
Producer
- MC
Self taught musician, MC, and producer, Material has experimented with production since 2001, although his love for hip hop dates way back to the original RUN DMC and NWA days. His work features unique drums, smooth cuts and samples, original melodies, and always seeking new beat forms to create one-of-a-kind tracks. His progression with production over the years, has helped him push the limits of his equipment and traditional hip hop conventions in production. He’s got the ear and the knowledge to throw together masterpieces in minimal time to make him one of the most prolific producers in Kollage and locally. If he’s not in the studio behind the digital arsenal of computers and instruments, then he’s handwriting his masterful wordplay of lyrics in one of his many notebooks full of rhythmic poetry. He portrays his experiences of life which seems to mirror a lot of our listeners’ stories. He can mix up emotions, creativity, and playful melodic patterns in his rhymes that set him aside as one of the best MC’s in Denver. It is unfortunate that a lot of his work will never make it public due to time and perfectionism. He’s got more than what you see and hear.

NOETIC (Joe Heitkamp)
aka: Hoboe Joe
MC
St. Louis raised musical connoisseur has been in the Hip Hop scene since day one. He is always chasing down new music, hip hop or not, to find quality and skilled talent that serves his ears well. His many years of musical knowledge and experiences along with his love for literature and political interests, assist Noetic’s intellectual and smooth methodical lyrics stand apart from the typical rhymes out there. Reaching between Hip Hop and spoken word styles, he crafts his words to entertain and make you think twice if they were laid down over tight-ass beats or acappella. Listening to his writing skills will allow you to go inside his creative head and acknowledge the talent and intelligence Noetic holds and is willing to express. Just when you hear something extraordinary, his next verse is right there to back it up. He doesn’t settle for mediocre rhymes, so his whole compositions come off strong and powerful with amazing lyrics.

ARTISTIQ (Patrick Hansen)
aka: DJ Tanner, π
DJ
Producer
MC
- Guitarsts/Bassist
ArtisitIQ has been a long time friend of Material. Both grew up together since Jr. High. He began his musical lifestyle with a six string back in 1990. Although hip hop still played a vital role in his musical play list, he also wanted to experiment with a variety of musical styles. With guitar and musical training in rock, blues/jazz, and classical, he wanted to bring these elements to his hop hop production. As he also started production circa 2001, artistIQ utilizes a variety of styles and techniques to produce organic, jazz and rock influenced hip hop beats. Strongly into poetry and writing, he applied this to his rhymes. He composes with a witty vocabulary and intends to provide more than just the literal meanings behind his messages, so take another listen. He is always wanting to take lyrical word play to other levels and see how much he can make a listener think while being entertained. Stepping up to the tables, artistIQ is acquiring skills on those as well. Focusing on challenging turn tablism and mixing, but never forgetting the ever important fundamentals with the vinyl. He is also responsible for various other aspects such as art and design for the crew. Heavily into art and the many forms, it is no reason why they call him artistIQ.
