Foma*

foma is a rock quintet home grown out of Denver, Co. Their sonic palette combines a blend of rock-alternative, funk, blues, and is lightly peppered with a pinch of country twang.

Very much against all odds, these five naturally handsome gents, are slowly becoming the darlings of the Denver music scene.

Contrary to the so called status quo, the members of foma were not boyhood pals. It was only by sheer divine intervention that this fab five found each other. In fact, foma might not have ever even been a band, if it wasn’t for the threads that link together in an enormous network of friends. It all started with Jace Smykil and Mike Hinds. Old high school chums, Jace graced the stage in all the theatrical productions, while Mike played quads in the battery of the marching band. Jace and Mike went their separate ways after high school.

In what would seem like a whole other galaxy, Jim Fierro and Mike Rodholm met each other in a combo rehearsal at Lamont school of music. Sparked by a PHISH t-shirt, their friendship and musical clairvoyance flourished from there.

The final member of foma is none other than Joe Apice. A talented actor with rugged good looks, and a disgusting fetish for the electric guitar, Joe found himself as a theater major at UNC. It was during school that Joe finally met Jace, who also was a theater major. On the other end of the proverbial galaxy, Jim and Rodholm had developed a great deal of success in an old Denver band called The Chronophonic…you may have heard of them. Joe, Jace and all of their UNC theater cronies would frequently come to Chronophonic shows.

You can see how the pieces are starting to come together now.

It was only a matter of time, before the Chronophonic finally folded, and the idea of a new project would come into fruition. Luckily Mike Hinds answered the call for the drummer position. Jim would then step down from being a drummer himself, and take on the bass. Jace assumed the lead vocal spot. Joe on guitar, as well as quite a few other fun goodies such as banjo, harmonica, and uke. And Mike rodholm on a blazing stratocaster to be the lead guitarist.

Thus the inception of foma* began.
