“Blending players from different musical styles, the picture of Achille Lauro is most definitely akin to the artist in the cave. Initially born out of a couple Mossman brothers’ melodies, the band solidified when the musicians came together and each player took it upon themselves to hone new skills, adapt and prepare for a musical landslide in their repertoire. And while they have landed on something extraordinary and fluid, the amalgamation of the players wasn’t all that easy. On account of the vast musical styles afforded in each of the five musicians, each player was forced to retreat and exhibit patience through some calculated individualism; because in the end it was always about complimenting the other players and coming back into the whole.”////////////////////// Article written by Jonathan Bitz, denversyntax.com
“Taking the instrumental flair of acts like Tristezza, the Mercury Program and Pele and infusing it with smoky, jazz-filled interludes and expressive vocals, Achille Lauro is positively eargasmic. You’re Going to Live’s only discernable drawback is that it’s too short, with just four songs and a running time of 22 minutes.”///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Dave Herrera, Westword Magazine================================================================================
Achille Lauro finished things off, as befitting a benefit show for one of its members. Before an enthusiastic and knowledgeable audience – I could see a number of folks mouthing the words or singing along – the crew members of Achille Lauro steered a confident course through their set. The music was angular, but emotional; challenging, yet inviting; warm and weird. Matt Close is an entertaining spectacle of a singer/guitarist with a goony charm, an impressive voice and elastic, emotive singing style. The rest of the band wasn’t lacking in personality either – there was a surplus of it throughout – making for an entertaining performance. And at the end of the relatively short set, Achille Lauro got the nicest compliment a band can receive – a bunch of fans shouting out for one more song. “We don’t know any more songs,” Close answered back. Certainly that will change, and I have to count myself among those who can’t wait. —Cory Casciato, westword review of dec 21,2007 show at hi-dive
